International Conference - Curation and Conservation: Dress and Textiles in Museums

For the very first time, the International Conference of Dress Historians will take place in Italy (it will be possible to join also through a digital platform) at the Centre of Conservation and Restoration “La Venaria Reale” in Turin,Italy. 

The 2021 edition, organised jointly by the Association of Dress Historians and the Centre of Conservation and Restoration, is titled “Curation and Conservation: Dress and Textiles in Museums” and the Call for Papers is now open and closes the 1st December 2020. 

This International Conference will explore issues and solutions of fashion displays in museums and related conservation practices through four specialised branches:

Branch 1: Conservation: Planning and Intervention Problems 
This branch will include case studies with particular complexities linked to the state of conservation of an artefact, innovative solutions for restoration intervention, preventive conservation, and storage practices. 

Branch 2: Conservation: Applied Studies and Diagnostic Analyses 
This branch will include the study of the material and technique of clothing making, scientific analysis, and applied research projects. 

Branch 3: Museum Displays: Organisation and Exhibition Curation between Past and Present 
This branch will include programmatic choices of museum exhibitions, exhibition projects, and enhancement of textile and fashion collections. 

Branch 4: Museum Displays: Exhibition Practices and Museography 
This branch will include exhibition practices and innovative techniques for complex and three– dimensional artefacts through examples in collections, standards, and protocols.

Ook dit jaar organiseert De Kunstkliniek in samenwerking met ARA Nederland een workshop door Paolo Cremonesi voor gevorderde gebruikers van de Wolbers’ methode (gel en/of emulsies). De toenmalige vijfdaagse workshop is nu in twee verdeeld en ieder deel duurt nu drie dagen. Dit eerste deel, “Emulsions for Surface Cleaning and Removal of Film-Forming Materials” zal gehouden worden in de Amershof te Amersfoort, (Snouckaertlaan 11 (zijstraat Stationsstraat), 3811 MA, Amersfoort), op 8, 9 en 10 November 2021.
